There are places where you can spend the night. And there are places where you realize upon arrival that you want to stay: The Stober estate is such a place. Located directly on the Groß Behnitz lake, surrounded by old trees, meadows and the vastness of the Havelland region. Historic brick buildings tell the story of more than 150 years of history. Today, a hotel has been built here that combines peace, nature, enjoyment and responsible business practices.
Close to Berlin – and yet surprisingly far removed from everyday life: A hotel. A historical ensemble. A universe unto itself.
The organic hotel has 300 rooms, and right next to it is the historic complex with its 30 event rooms for conferences, weddings and private celebrations: historic architecture, old trees, the lake.
Here you don't have to do much to experience something: a walk through the park. A good meal. A glass on the lakeside terrace. A book by the lake. Discover the history of the place. Or simply: nothing.
Where history doesn't take place behind glass: The Stober estate looks back on an extraordinary past. From 1866 onwards, the Berlin industrialist family Borsig developed the estate into a progressive model agricultural estate – characterized by entrepreneurial spirit, technical innovations and new ideas.
Around 75 years later, Groß Behnitz became an important place in the Kreisau Circle. During the Nazi era, this was a meeting place for people who had the courage to think about a different, democratic future for Germany.
This history can still be felt on the estate today: in the historic buildings, the preserved details and our exhibitions – and sometimes simply when walking around the grounds.
The past is not being staged here. She belongs to the place.
Between lake, park and Havelland: Anyone who steps outside in the morning stands on the edge of the Westhavelland Nature Park. Lake Groß Behnitz is located directly next to the estate; old plane trees characterize the historic park, and beyond it begins the vastness of nature.
This makes the estate a wonderful base for days spent outdoors – and at the same time a place you don't actually have to leave.

  And sometimes the best plan is to have no plan at all.
  Sleep with peace of mind
  Our 300 rooms are deliberately designed to be clear and minimalist. Natural materials, oak floorboards and plenty of peace and quiet define the atmosphere.
  Guests sleep on COCO-MAT natural beds. The rooms have reduced electrosmog and combine modern comfort with a conscious use of resources.
  A fresh organic breakfast awaits you in the morning – and the lake is already outside.
  Eat. Enjoy. Remain.
  A stay in the Havelland region should also simply taste good. In our Seeterrassen restaurant, we combine good cuisine with what suits the estate: selected ingredients, a conscious approach to food, and an atmosphere where you like to linger a little longer.
  It's best to do it outside when the weather is nice. With a view of the greenery and the Groß Behnitz lake: Our Seeterrassen restaurant is open from Thursday to Sunday, from 12 pm to 9 pm.
  Sustainability that's part of everyday life
  Sustainability is not an optional extra on the estate. Many decisions that guests might not notice at first glance have been a matter of course in our business for years.
  Photovoltaics generate electricity on the premises, two wood chip plants provide heat and large cisterns collect rainwater, which is used, among other things, for flushing toilets.
  We also think long-term in economic terms: profits are largely reinvested, shared with the team, or used for charitable projects.
  We are delighted that this route is regularly awarded prizes (including being named the greenest hotel in Europe in 2017 & 2021) and independently certified. What's more important to us is that it works in daily operation.
  A weekend can be quite far away.
  The estate is located in Groß Behnitz in the Havelland region – west of Berlin. It's a quick trip from the capital, and yet suddenly you're surrounded by a lake, old trees, and historic brick buildings. Take the train to Nauen, then continue to Groß Behnitz. Those arriving by car will find free parking spaces directly at the estate.
  Ideal for a weekend, a short break, a special occasion – or simply for the spontaneous realization that you need to get away again.
