The dosha-appropriate diet in Ayurveda is based on the individual constitution of a person, which is determined by the three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. The goal is to maintain or restore inner balance by choosing foods that harmonize the dominant or unbalanced dosha.
Vata types benefit from warm, nourishing, and oily foods to soothe their dry and mobile nature. Pitta types should prefer cooling, light and bitter foods to balance their fiery energy. Kapha types need stimulating, light and dry food to balance their rather heavy and stable constitution. In addition to the choice of ingredients, the type of preparation, the time of day and mindful food intake also play a crucial role.
