70 years of Biohotel Mattlihüs in the Allgäu

70 years of Biohotel Mattlihüs in the Allgäu - Biohotels.de

70 years ago, today's 4-star Biohotel Mattlihüs was still a ski hut on the Iseler in Oberjoch, which was a warming room for skiers. Fritz and Agi Deuner opened the Mattlihüs at the Iselerlift in 1949 at the suggestion of the then mayor Zillebiller. Although the house was initially only planned as a warming room at the ski lift in Oberjoch, the first guest rooms were built early on in what was then known as the “Cafe Mattlihaus”. The first washing machine, the first television and the first sauna soon found their way to the Oberjoch and the Mattlihüs.

The wellness idea has existed for over 40 years

The Mattlihüs developed innovatively and consistently over three generations and there were already signs of an image change in the 1970s. The handover to Mattli and Hubert Geißler took place in 1976. At the same time, the hotel rooms were expanded and the first holiday apartments and a fitness room were built in Oberjoch. The topic of “wellness” was taken up very early on. For example, a sunrise hike, barefoot walking in the meadow dew, stream walks, a meadow breakfast and much more were offered.

First Holz100 organic hotel in Germany

The first Holz100 organic hotel was built in Germany in 2011. This is a unique and sustainable hotel concept that was implemented by Melita and Alexander Geißler. Alpine building biology with lots of wood and natural materials and Feng Shui criteria came together here. The organic hotel was expanded to include a large wellness area and 12 organic rooms and suites were optimized using biological building elements such as furniture made from pine wood. The food and drinks in the restaurant are 100% organic and guests are offered activity programs such as yoga, TaiChi, forest bathing and guided herbal and nature hikes.

3.5 million euros went into the modernization

With the 70th anniversary of the Mattlihüs in 2019, the oldest part of the house was also completely renovated: the mountain restaurant. Local woods such as Allgäu mountain maple and silver fir were also used here. The Geißler family has invested around 3.5 million euros in modernizing their organic hotel in recent years.

Today, the organic hotel stands for a unique location and cozy, traditional rooms in a modern, bright style. The facade was also revised in terms of building biology and energy efficiency and covered with Allgäu larch shingles.

The philosophy of the 4-star organic hotel

“Your place of power in the Allgäu” – that is the philosophy of the 4-star organic hotel today.
