Long sandy beaches, green beaches and dikes grazed by sheep are part of the landscape of the North Sea.
Wadden Sea World Heritage Site
The Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park in the North Sea spa town of Büsum was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2009 and is the largest national park in Europe.
The Wadden Sea offers exciting natural events: At low tide, the muddy mudflats reveal a variety of animals such as lugworms, mussels and crabs. At high tide, fish, jellyfish, starfish, gray seals and harbor seals return.
Popular with migratory birds
Every year up to 12 million migratory birds visit the Wadden Sea, visiting the Halligen Islands and the mainland. Due to overfishing and climate change, the population of migratory birds has declined by 1/3 in recent years. The birds use the Wadden Sea to “refuel” on their east Atlantic migration route to their breeding grounds.

Here on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein, during your nature holiday on the North Sea you can, among other things, go on mudflat hikes, mudflat tours or cycle tours on the North Sea coast or find out more about the North Sea spa, the "Blanker Hans" storm surge world and about seafaring. The fishing port, the museum harbor and the St. Clemens fishing church are also worth seeing.
Familys
Families feel particularly at home in the Perlebucht family lagoon - a very beautiful bathing beach, especially for families. Büsum has a variety of sports and leisure activities to offer and in the warm season it hosts open-air events with international bands that are well worth seeing.
