Eastern Bavaria considers itself to be the most beautiful region of Bavaria , which undoubtedly has a lot to offer. There are breathtaking landscapes and countless interesting excursion destinations for an organic holiday in an organic hotel.
Eastern Bavaria is divided into these four regions:
The incredible diversity delights visitors from home and abroad. The organic hotels in Eastern Bavaria offer something for active people, culture lovers, connoisseurs, those seeking relaxation and families.
The Bavarian Forest enchants with endless forests, mighty mountain ridges and gentle hilltops, between which small mountain lakes can always be discovered. Above this, delicate stripes of fog lie over the largest forest landscape in Central Europe. The area covers an area of ~6,000 km² between the Danube, the Bohemian Forest behind the Czech border and the border with Austria. Germany's only virgin forest on the border with neighboring Czech Republic is the Bavarian Forest National Park. There is absolutely untouched nature here and rare animals such as lynxes, wolves, moose and otters. 130 mountain peaks in the Bavarian Forest alone are over 1,000 meters high and can be hiked with good signage. The best known are the Arber, the Osser, the Rachel, the Lusen and the Brotjacklriegel. The Goldsteig is the quality hiking trail through the Bavarian Forest. It is the longest hiking trail in Germany.
The districts of Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, Kelheim, Amberg-Sulzbach and parts of the Regensburg district belong to the Bavarian Jura tourist regional community. The landscape gets its name because of its geological formation. It comes from a huge sea that covered the region in question a few million years ago - when dinosaurs lived here. With the retreat of the sea, today's impressive landscape emerged from gently undulating plateaus, overlooked by cones and hilltops and cut through by narrow river valleys. There are bizarre stalactite caves, the Weltenburg Monastery, the Roman Limes and Europe's largest sand ski mountain. Many other sights make the Bavarian Jura very interesting for active holidays.
The region around the old imperial city of Regensburg all the way to Eger in Bohemia is the Upper Palatinate Forest. This holiday area has a particularly large number of romantic towns, castles, palaces and monasteries. There are also pond and lake landscapes, mountain chapels and a Golden Street, the Glass and Porcelain Streets, a geopark with hot springs, the festival summer and the open-air museum with the Volksbühne, as well as Spiegelkarpfen and Zoiglbier, the Goldsteig and the Bavarian-Bohemian Friendship Trail.
This area is named after the many thermal baths and golf courses, so it may overlap with other eastern Bavarian regions. The highest density of thermal baths and golf courses can be found between Passau in the east and Regensburg in the west, between the Inn in the south and the Danube in the north. The best-known health resorts are Bad Füssing, Bad Birnbach and Bad Griesbach, which form the Lower Bavarian spa triangle. The historic Danube baths of Bad Abbach and Bad Gögging are equally prominent. The Bavarian golf and thermal spa region is one of the leading spa and wellness destinations in Europe. The golf courses are legendary, and the dense network of cycle paths on the Danube, the Isar, the Rott and the Vils also attract many tourists.
In 92711 Parkstein there is a basalt cone that Alexander von Humboldt described as the most beautiful of its kind in Europe. It towers over the town of Parkstein and the Weiden Basin. The formation is around 40 meters high and consists of hexagonal and pentagonal basalt columns. At the top of the cone are the remains of a medieval castle and a church. The Parkstein Volcano Experience Museum provides information about the formation of the volcano.
The Flederwisch adventure workshop in 93437 Furth im Wald takes visitors on a path of discovery of technology in a mysterious garden. You can admire a gold mining camp, a dragon and knight shop, the arts and crafts stadium, the largest Bavarian steam engine and an industrial building built around 1900 in its original condition. Technology enthusiasts could spend days in this interactive exhibition. Children also have incredible fun exploring and discovering. Many of the machines on display here are best known from historical films. Nature has also contributed to the charm of the museum. An old production machine on site was bizarrely wrapped around a tree trunk. You can also see a gigantic steel bridge from the early 20th century, the parts of which were riveted together entirely by hand.
