Organic vacation in Tennengau

The Tennengau adventure world is located around 20 km south of Salzburg . The region borders Germany in the west, the Salzkammergut lies in the east and the Tennengebirge in the south. Three different landscapes characterize the Tennengau: in the north lies the Osterhorn group, rich in alpine pastures, in the south the karst massif in the Tennengebirge and in the middle the wildly jagged Gosaukamm. Mountain bikers love Tennengau, it is connected to other bike areas - such as in the Salzkammergut, in the Salzburger Sportwelt and in Berchtesgadener Land. A popular excursion destination for organic holidaymakers is the Bluntautal nature reserve near Golling, whose valley can also be hiked with a stroller. Even in winter, Tennengau is a first-class organic holiday region with family-friendly ski areas .

Culture and customs in Tennengau

The Tennengau was already shaped in prehistoric times by the Celts, who are remembered everywhere here. Concerts , plays , exhibitions and festivals take place in the region all year round. Central to this is the cultural city of Hallein with the venues Zieglstadl, Salzberghalle, Salinenkapelle, Perner Island, Evaporator Tower and City Theater. Around 160 cultural projects and productions are realized every year .

Festivals take place at Golling Castle, and the Jakobisaal hosts events in St. Jakob. The unique landscape offers an excellent backdrop for traditional festivals . Many customs revolve around salt, which contributed to the region's prosperity over 1,000 years ago. The Celts had already mined salt here over 1,000 years earlier.

Furthermore, the Salzburg fight for freedom around 1800 is commemorated here, in which the Lueg pass in Tennengau played an important role. The Silent Night Museum in Hallein is entirely dedicated to the composer Franz Xaver Gruber , who wrote the most beautiful Christmas carol. He last lived in Hallein and is buried there.
