Organic hotel in Weissensee

A relaxing holiday in the healing climate of the Weissensee Nature Park in Carinthia - this beautiful region was awarded the "European Prize for Tourism and Environment" and declared a nature park due to its numerous resource-saving recreational opportunities. Here at this 11.6 km long lake you can spend your vacation in the unique diversity of nature in summer and winter.

The lake

The 6.5 km² Weissensee is a swimming lake with crystal clear water of excellent water quality, comparable to drinking water. Every accommodation facility offers its guests a free beach for bathing pleasure in water that is up to 24°C warm.

Fishing, diving, cliff jumping or water skiing are also possible here. 22 species of fish, including lake trout, pike, carp and zander, are native here. With visibility of up to 20 meters under water, Lake Weissensee with its exciting underwater landscape is one of the most popular diving areas in the Alps.

If you prefer to spend time on the water, you can also take a sailing or surfing course here or relax on a leisurely tour on one of the Weissensee ships. A combination of hiking and boating is also popular: a total of 146 km of hiking trails give you the opportunity to discover the nature park both by boat and while hiking. You can interrupt your tour for a hike at eight piers.

In winter, the lake is the largest natural ice surface in Europe and is therefore ideal for skating or curling.

hiking in the mountains

There are marked hiking trails of all levels of difficulty around Lake Weissensee, which are ideal for hiking, biking or Nordic walking. Walks around the lake offer a wonderful view of a unique setting at an altitude of over 2,300 meters above sea level. The Weissensee mountain railway is a good hiking aid.

Located on the hiking trails, you can stop off in cozy alpine huts and enjoy Carinthian specialties such as Kaiserschmarrn or alpine cheese from our own alpine cheese dairy.

You can easily cover the first few meters of altitude with the Weissensee mountain railway and then reach numerous hiking destinations such as the Naggler Alm, the Kohlröslhütte or the Hermagorer Bodenalm from the mountain station. The train even offers mountain bike transport chairs for bikers

Mild tourism

Gentle tourism and the preservation of an intact natural area are priorities here. Only around a third of the shore of the lake is built up and the rest is under nature and landscape protection and is therefore particularly protected. Associated with protection is the mandate to preserve the beautiful nature around the lake, but still make it possible for nature lovers to experience it.
