The Austrian state of Styria with its capital Graz is a very popular holiday region that offers everything that makes organic holidays close to nature exciting at any time of the year: mountains with ski areas, attractive hiking and biking regions, rivers and valleys, fantastic panoramas, friendly hosts and interesting excursion destinations . An organic holiday for families will also be an unforgettable experience.
From a tourism perspective, the regions can be described as follows:

From a geographical and administrative point of view, Styria is divided into Upper, West, East and Central Styria, between which the state capital Graz lies. These divisions are not to be viewed strictly from an administrative and political point of view, but tourism associations also orient themselves somewhat towards them. These are historically developed names that are not even completely geographically correct and therefore sometimes cause confusion. For example, parts of Upper Styria are located more to the west than Western Styria. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, West and East Styria together formed Central Styria, which was then opposed to Lower Styria, in which many Slovenes lived. After the First World War, the area was re-divided and Lower Styria partially fell to Yugoslavia.
What is remarkable about Styria as a whole is its abundance of forests (61% of the area), which earned it the nickname “ Green Heart of Austria ”. Another 25% of the area is meadows, pastures, vineyards and orchards. Geographically, the Ennstal with Dachstein, Gesäuse, Hochschwab and Rax is the highest Styrian region. The Hochwildstelle located here is the highest Styrian mountain at 2,747 m. The Mur flows through Styria. The largest lake is the Grundlsee, its water surface covers 4.3 km².

In winter, Styria captivates with its snow-covered landscapes, fantastic panoramas and crystal-clear mountain air. Cross-country skiers love it because of the silence, the good cross-country ski trails, the abundance of snow and the wonderful views of the mountains. Many tours (almost all) have the cross-country skiing quality seal , and a number of organic hotels in Styria rent skis and offer family courses for cross-country skiing. This is very healthy, harmless and can also be managed by smaller children.
When cross-country skiing, our body activates 600 muscles at the same time, and there is hardly anything healthier for the heart and circulation other than swimming. The beautiful Styrian landscape provides the necessary motivation. If you want to lose some weight, you can book a holiday in a Styrian organic hotel with cross-country skiing. Recommended regions for cross-country skiing in Styria would be:

Your head also becomes clear and the stress of everyday life disappears. Feelings of happiness arise in the evening by the fireplace in the Bio Hotel. The most beautiful cross-country skiing regions in Styria with their perfectly prepared tracks, the necessary infrastructure, the necessary safety precautions and, last but not least, guaranteed snow offer the best conditions for cross-country skiing .

If you are looking for fast descents in Styria, choose these slopes:
Styria offers everything for hikers: mountains, forests, rolling hills, streams and gardens. All of this can be discovered with every step. It gives us new strength and leads us to ourselves. Enjoying nature as a hiker and then taking a leisurely break is one of the most beautiful ways to discover Styria.

The many hiking trails are also very exciting. Rugged mountains alternate with huge alpine pastures and exciting valleys. The diverse landscapes around the Dachstein, the Gesäuse and the Hochschwab and at the same time the lovely landscapes of the vineyards and orchards offer everything between challenge and idyll that excites hikers.
Eight of Austria's ten long-distance hiking trails run through Styria at the same time. If you are on vacation with your family at the organic hotel in Styria, you can use it in parts. The most beautiful discoveries may be the route from the glacier down to the wine, where you walk from one hut to the next all day long. The landscape is constantly changing and always offers breathtaking views. These would be very nice hiking tours:
Styria is an excellent place to discover by bike. There are over 1,000 kilometers of cycle paths , including easy and family-friendly tours - often along rivers and streams - as well as designated mountain bike trails for experts.

MTB championships (including world championships) take place in some regions. Classics include the Mur cycle path and the Enns cycle path, insider tips include the Raabtal cycle path, the Feistritztal cycle path (Eastern Styria) or the Mürztal cycle path (Upper Styria). The cycling tours can be combined with the culinary delights of Styria. One of these tours would be, for example, the Weinland Steiermark Tour, which covers over 400 km and covers the entire wine region of southern and eastern Styria.
Styria has seven nature parks, all of which are landscapes full of life:
These nature parks represent ecologically valuable and characteristic and cultural landscapes. This includes species-rich vineyards, pond and river areas, alpine pastures and orchard hilly landscapes. The conscious experience of nature, which is under special protection here, is encouraged everywhere.
Many of the hiking and cycling tours lead through nature parks. These are healthy habitats not only for animals and plants, but also for people, which are therefore sensibly integrated. This also includes agriculture and livestock farming in the parks. In this way, cows and sheep protect the alpine pastures from unwanted forest cover. At the same time, these animals provide high-quality raw materials from which culinary nature park specialties are created, some of which are offered in top restaurants.
Styria offers numerous sights and excursion destinations for the whole family. These highlights, among others, are very popular:
The Schlossberg with its clock tower is located in the middle of the state capital. The Graz clock tower is the city's landmark . The Schlossberg has been a tourist attraction since 1894, and the Schlossbergbahn has existed since then. Today it is equipped with panoramic glass windows that provide a breathtaking view of western Graz. During the journey, which is an experience in itself, the train overcomes an incline of almost 60%. At the top of the Schlossberg, visitors view the 28 m high Graz clock tower from the 13th century. The clock has - an attraction for onlookers - a small minute hand and a large hour hand, as was common in the 13th century. Originally there was only one hour hand. When the minute hand was added later, it was made smaller, which has long been considered a special feature worth seeing.
The Graz Castle Museum near the Schlossberg is definitely worth a trip. The Dachstein Skywalk is located in Upper Styria at an altitude of 2,700 m and is only recommended for tourists with a head for heights. The Skywalk has three stations, including a suspension bridge at a height of 400 m .

The Wilde Wasser themed world is located near the Schladming ski area . It is a 14 km long hiking trail, the stops of which include a moor, the well-known dead ice bottom and a 50 m long suspension bridge. The 140 m high Riesach waterfall awaits at the destination. If you want to experience something with children, visit the Gröbming Adventure Park. It is located in Upper Styria, is the largest Austrian climbing park (20 hectares, 2,000 m climbing route) and is worth a day trip. The easier courses are suitable for children around three years old. Brave climbers can experience something like a free flight with Flying Foxes at a height of 18 m.
