Each and every one of us can contribute to mitigating climate change, and not just through our lifestyle.
The climate change is largely caused by the gas carbon dioxide (CO2), which each of us produces. As natural CO2 stores, trees and other plants absorb this greenhouse-promoting and climate-damaging gas during photosynthesis and convert it into oxygen, which all people and animals need to breathe.
In the wood of the forests, the carbon is bound over the long term and stored in the wood mass. During photosynthesis, trees absorb around 1,900 kg of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to grow 1,000 kg of wood. On the one hand, oxygen is released again and around 500 kg of carbon is also stored in the wood. The forest floor also stores carbon.
€40 in donations are required to plant and maintain 10 square meters of climate forest.
Help the climate sustainably
The Climate Forest Foundation, for example, is creating more and more new climate forests in Germany. You can donate on the Klimawald Foundation website https://www.stiftung-klimawald.de and thus contribute sustainably to the growth of forests and thus to the improvement of our environment.
Become a forest shareholder
The “forest share” introduced by Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is also interesting. For the purchase price of a share of 10 euros, trees can be cared for in an area of 10 square meters. This area is enough to offset the carbon dioxide emissions of a family of four on an average vacation.
Tree plantings take place regularly, where you can plant the tree you donated yourself. A tree and a spade adapted to the location are already on site.
What else can be done for climate protection?
- carpool if you rely on a car
- Use your bike more often for short journeys and leave your car behind.
- eat less or no meat/animal products (meat production produces large amounts of greenhouse gases). Purely vegan & organic is the most climate-friendly
- save electricity
- only heat as much as necessary
- switch to green electricity
- If possible, travel by train instead of plane
- When it comes to your diet, pay attention to regional products (short transport routes) and seasonal dishes
- buy organically grown food
- use organic certified cleaning products
- use recycled paper
- avoid cans
What we do for climate protection
We at Biohotels.de plant trees: one tree for every entry in our portal - year after year.
