What is a vegan organic hotel?
Strictly speaking, a hotel is not entirely vegan if it “only” offers vegan - i.e. purely plant-based - cuisine. Because veganism is not just a diet: living vegan is an attitude to life in which, on the one hand, all foods of animal origin are avoided and, on the other hand, all products for which animals are exploited. This goes beyond a plant-based diet.
Animal friendly = climate friendly
Cooking in an animal-friendly way means cooking in a climate-friendly way. Organic hotels in particular, for whom their climate footprint is important, should provide their guests with an extensive range of vegan meals made from fresh ingredients every day, without exception, without any meat, dairy or egg products. And that 365 days a year. It goes without saying that these vegan products should, if possible, be seasonal and of regional origin. Importing vegan food from anywhere in the world is not in the spirit of an organic lifestyle.
Biohotels.de advocates vegan organic cuisine
In addition to the animal welfare aspect, enjoying a holistic vegan diet also has health benefits. We expressly advocate vegan cuisine. Vegan organic hotels and organic guesthouses that have already completely converted their cuisine to vegan are particularly sustainable and environmentally conscious.
Is vegan healthy?
Of course, vegan does not necessarily mean healthy. Foods that consist primarily of meat substitutes, such as soy products or Seitan products, are just as unhealthy as foods that contain a lot of sugar and white flour. But this is not a vegan problem, because a vegan diet can be very healthy and can even help prevent and cure diseases if you pay attention to a few things.
A healthy, diverse vegan cuisine consists of lots of organic vegetables, fruit, legumes such as peas, beans, lentils, peanuts and lupins. Incidentally, the nutritional value of lupine is even better than that of beans or peas. An occasional vegan raw diet is also very healthy and is therefore also referred to as a temporary healing food that, for example, restarts the body's own regulation in the event of chronic constipation or intestinal sluggishness.
Vegan food can prevent illness and increase life expectancy
Numerous scientific studies show that high consumption of fruit and vegetables can increase life expectancy. With his quote “ Let your food be your medicine and your medicine your food, ” the Greek physician Hippocrates pointed out more than two thousand years ago that illness and well-being are directly linked to nutrition.
For example, those affected by rheumatoid arthritis can often alleviate the symptoms by switching to a vegan diet.
A varied, wholesome, vegan cuisine ensures the supply of all important nutrients (with the exception of B12, which must be supplemented).
And the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (the world's largest association of nutritionists with more than 70,000 people) also considers a plant-based diet to be healthy and suitable for all ages and phases of life: " Well-planned vegetarian diets, including vegan ones, are healthy, in Nutritionally adequate, and provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. These diets are suitable for all phases of the life cycle, including pregnancy, breastfeeding, infancy, childhood and adolescence. "
